David Barrett Memorial Scholarship — Key Information

Purpose and Eligibility
The David Barrett Memorial Scholarship honors exceptional undergraduate or graduate students enrolled in an accredited interior design program of at least three years’ duration. Candidates should show a sustained interest and proven ability to work with classical design principles—aligned with Greek and Roman traditions—and to incorporate traditional materials such as period furniture and textiles into their design solutions.
Scope of Work Accepted
Applicants are encouraged to interpret classical traditions with originality and inventiveness. Submissions from any project category are welcome, including (but not limited to) workplace, civic, residential, hospitality, and historic restoration projects.
Application Materials (Required)
- Design portfolio: 8–12 pages showcasing work that reflects a continuing focus on classical design and the use of traditional materials in design proposals
- Portfolio statement: up to 500 words
- Personal statement
- Transcript: unofficial copy or other proof of current enrollment accepted
- Letter of recommendation
- Biographical statement
- Headshot
