Galvanize the Future Scholarship Contest
Scholarship Sponsored by American Galvanizers Association
The American Galvanizers Associations (AGA) has established the Galvanize the Future: A Richard L. Brooks Memorial Scholarship essay competition to support future professionals in dealing with the increasing expenses of higher education. The scholarship is open to full-time or part-time undergraduate or graduate students who are enrolled in an accredited North American college or university and are studying architecture, civil engineering, structural engineering, construction management, material science, or a related field.
Every year, two scholarships of $2,500 each are awarded to the authors of the best essays. The submission deadline for the upcoming competition is March 31st, 2026, and the winners will be announced in May 2026.
1. Eligibility Criteria
Eligible applicants include full-time or part-time undergraduate or graduate students of any age who are enrolled in an accredited North American college or university during the 2024-2025 academic year. High school students are not eligible. Acceptable fields of study include architecture, civil engineering, structural engineering, construction management, material science, or a related field.
2. Scholarship Amount
- Two winners will each receive a $2,500 scholarship.
3. Essay Length
Submitted essays should be a minimum of 1000 words and should not exceed 2000 words.
4. Preferred Style
Essays will be judged on their relevance, accuracy, conciseness, and creativity. All submissions should be in English.
5. Judging Process
AGA reviewers will read and rank each essay. The final decision on the awards will be made by the Executive Director of the AGA.

The AGA website offers a range of free resources on hot-dip galvanizing, including current publications, the AGA KnowledgeBase, technical information resource CDs, and various industry links.
7. Submission Deadline
The deadline for submissions is March 31st of the competition year.
8. Submission Process

9. Entry Limit
Each student is allowed to submit one entry per year.
10. Announcement of Winners
The winners will be personally notified and their names will be published on the AGA website in May 2026. The scholarship amount will be directly paid to the educational institution of the winning students. All submissions become the property of the American Galvanizers Association and will not be returned. Winning essays will also become the property of the American Galvanizers Association, which will fully cooperate with the authors for any republication of the essays.
