INTRODUCTION
The Alois and Marie Goldmann Scholarship was created in 1997 by Mary and George Freund to honor George’s grandparents, who were killed at the Auschwitz concentration camp during the Holocaust. The scholarship’s mission is to deepen Idaho high school students’ understanding of the Holocaust.

ELIGIBILITY
- Applicants must be graduating from high school or home school in the state of Idaho.
- Recipients must plan to enroll at an institution of higher education in Idaho the upcoming fall semester.

ESSAY OR RESEARCH PAPER GUIDELINES
To commemorate the Goldmanns and other victims, applicants must submit an original essay or formal research paper that focuses on one particular aspect of the Holocaust (do not write a general overview).

Formatting and content requirements:
- A separate title page that includes the title of your paper, your full name, and the date. Do not put your name on any other page of the manuscript.
- Length: 2–6 pages (not including the title page or bibliography).
- Double-spaced, one-inch margins, 10–12 point font.
- Proofread carefully for correct grammar, punctuation, capitalization, and spelling.
- If submitting a research paper, include a bibliography and proper source citations.

SUBMISSION INSTRUCTIONS & DEADLINE
Combine this completed application page, your essay/research paper, and your most recent unofficial high school transcript into a single PDF. Email that PDF to scholarships@idahocf.org by March 1, 11:59 p.m. MST.

The scholarship recipient will be notified by May 1.

SELECTION PROCESS
The primary criterion for awarding the scholarship is the originality and quality of the essay or research paper. Aside from maintaining at least a C grade point average, factors such as academic honors, financial need, and extracurricular or community involvement are not considered in the selection. The review panel includes members of the Freund family as well as non-family representatives.
