Public Education and Citizenship Scholarship
Scholarship Sponsored by Most Worshipful Grand Lodge of Free & Accepted Masons of Florida
In the early stages of our country's development, when the majority of the population were agricultural workers and illiteracy was widespread, there were no public establishments committed to enhancing the education of the populace and securing a prosperous future for subsequent generations. Freemasonry was at the forefront during these times, fostering a skilled workforce capable of independent reasoning and action. Past Masons devoted their efforts to the creation of new schools and the expansion of public education and opportunities. A notable instance is Brother Benjamin Franklin's contribution to the University of Pennsylvania.
As Masons, we choose to support those in the pursuit of knowledge, aiming to make a substantial impact on future generations. We achieve this by endorsing public education and advocating for our public school systems. In Florida, the Grand Master designates a Committee on Public Education and Citizenship to further this cause and support students in our public schools. Specifically, the Grand Lodge of Florida provides all graduating high school seniors the chance to receive a scholarship for use at any institution supported by the State of Florida.
