For eligibility in the Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship, the following criteria must be met by students:
- They should be a high school senior residing or studying in any of these zip codes and expected to graduate by June 2025: 98104, 98108, 98118, 98122, 98134, 98144. Schools within these zip codes, including Franklin, Garfield, NOVA, interagency sites, Rainier Beach, South Lake, Cleveland, and independent schools, are all eligible.
- Their family's income for 2023 should not surpass the amount specified for their family size in the provided chart.
- They should have maintained a minimum GPA of 3.0 up until the fall 2025 term.
- They should have plans to join a non-profit, accredited college or university in the United States in the fall of 2026.
- They should have filed a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) or the Washington Application for State Financial Aid (WASFA).
- They should have completed and submitted the application along with the necessary supporting documents.
- It's important to note that international students, students on foreign exchange or visas, and out-of-state residents are not eligible.
Submission Deadline
The upcoming application period begins on October 1, 2025, and ends on January 31, 2026. The deadline for submitting supporting documents is February 7, 2026.
To qualify for the Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship for the 2026-2027 academic year, you must fulfill the eligibility requirements and complete each of the following steps:
Required Submission Materials
- Complete an online application by January 31, 2026.
- Upload the necessary documents by February 7, 2026:
- An unofficial high school transcript showing grades up to fall 2024 and overall GPA.
- If you're a Running Start student, ensure your transcript includes your college credits.
- Request the following document via the application portal:
- Letter of recommendation: Make sure your recommenders submit their letters of recommendation by February 7, 2026.
