Overview The Kailee Mills Foundation Scholarship Program supports teen driver safety by promoting seat belt education through awareness work, research, volunteer service, and leadership activities. Recipients are students who demonstrate strong academics, ambition, leadership qualities, and a commitment to making a positive impact in their communities. Award amounts and use - Each year the foundation grants multiple scholarships to students across the United States. Individual awards vary and can be as high as $20,000. - Scholarships must be applied toward tuition and fees at an accredited two- or four-year college or university. - Applications are accepted year-round for preparation, but completed submissions must be received no later than March 15 each year. Payment schedule - Awards of $5,000 or more are disbursed in $5,000 installments per semester. - Awards under $5,000 are paid as a single lump sum. - Any portion of an award not used during a semester will carry forward to the next semester. - Scholarship funds are sent directly to the recipient’s college or university at the start of each spring and fall term, provided the student continues to meet the program’s recipient requirements. Who is eligible Applicants must: - Be a high school senior or a current post-secondary undergraduate student. - Have received, or be on track to receive, a high school diploma by the end of the graduating school year. (Current college students must show consecutive enrollment.) - Be enrolled in, or plan to enroll in, an accredited two- or four-year college or university in a full-time, degree-seeking program (minimum 12 credit hours), for the first time. - Be a U.S. citizen or a legal resident. Academic standards Preferred applicants will: - Hold a current GPA of at least 3.2 on a 4.0 scale. - Have SAT scores around 1050 or an ACT score around 20. (Note: submitting SAT/ACT scores is optional now. Including them may strengthen your application, but omitting them will not penalize you.) Character and community involvement Strong candidates typically: - Show a genuine desire to contribute positively to society. - Have documented volunteer experience in their community (verifiable proof of hours required). - Maintain high standards in their academic work. How to apply - Submit a completed scholarship application (available below), including every required attachment listed in the application packet. Incomplete applications will be disqualified. - Supporting materials provided to help applicants include: 1. Seat belt safety awareness campaign guidelines 2. Sample past campaigns 3. Financial plan template 4. An approved list of families to interview (optional — you may use your own) Timing and review - All application materials must be received by March 15. Parts of the application may take several weeks or months to complete, so applicants are strongly encouraged to review the entire packet and allow sufficient time. - Applications are evaluated by the scholarship committee and scored according to the criteria outlined above.
